The Department of Agriculture on April 11 celebrated the release of the 2017 Census of Agriculture, a vital data set published every five years by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). AmericanHort advocacy team members Dr. Jill Calabro, Tal Coley, and Tristan Daedalus attended the event, which was held at USDA headquarters.

Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of good data and the hard work that is put into making the report happen. He also highlighted the increased participation of women on farms and ranches; women now account for 36% of all producers of these operations. NASS Administrator Hubert Hamer was also given an award for his nearly 40 years of service to agriculture.

Taken together, the Ag Census and the Census of Horticultural Specialties, which follows, are among the primary industry information sources. Access the data here.
