AmericanHort H-2A Comments Filed Too
On September 24, AmericanHort filed official comments on the Administration’s “notice of proposed rulemaking” (NPRM) that seeks to streamline and modernize the H-2A agricultural worker visa program. The comments describe in detail where we believe the proposed changes would improve the current program, and where we believe the Administration misses the mark or could go further.
More and more greenhouse and nursery growers are turning to H-2A in the face of an untenable labor situation. Use of the program has been growing by “double digits” over several years and we expect the same will turn out to be true in 2019. At the recent Impact Washington Summit, we advocated for changes that would reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and improve access to the program.
At our publishing deadline, negotiations on a House bill to address agricultural labor were nearing fruition. We’ll report more on that next time!
