Effective Advocacy Starts with a Relationship

AmericanHort leader Mike Gooder, of PlantPeddler in Cresco, Iowa understands that effective advocacy is essential to business success. He knows that it all starts with a relationship. And to put it bluntly, Mike’s on a roll.

Earlier this year, Plantpeddler hosted U.S. Representative Abby Finkenauer (D-IA) for a facility tour. Then, she and Gooder met face to face during the Impact Washington summit in September.

On November 12, Iowa Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg spent an hour at Plantpeddler, where he observed poinsettia production, saw greenhouse expansion underway, and discussed our industry’s top issues. The next week, they are hosting an Iowa state Senator and Representative.

Hosting a facility tour is one of the most effective ways to establish a productive relationship with your policymakers, and it doesn’t need to be a heavy lift, just some prior planning and a little patience. Let us know if you need tips on how to make a visit successful.
