Telling Our Industry’s Story
As we’ve been reporting over the spring and summer, AmericanHort is encouraging members to reach out to their elected leaders in Congress – especially the newbies – to begin the process of educating them about our industry and our legislative priorities. Hosting a visit by an elected leader is especially effective.
At the end of August, a group of nursery owners with operations on Virginia’s Eastern Shore — David’s Nursery, Eastern Shore Nursery of Virginia, and Hermitage Farms – hosted first-term Congresswoman Elaine Luria (VA-02) for just such a visit. Primary issues discussed included workforce and immigration reform, and trucking and logistics.
In mid-September, it’s a chance for industry leaders and all who want to take part in shaping our industry’s future to gather in the nation’s capital for the Impact Washington legislative summit. Things are shaping up well for the summit, with a solid group of participants from roughly 25 states.
Participants will then visit their elected leaders and staff to discuss several top industry priorities that are now in play in Congress: labor and workforce challenges and needs, including H-2B cap relief; the Agricultural Trucking Relief Act legislation, and research and innovation funding.
It’s not too late to make plans to join us! Visit americanhort.org and look under Events, or contact any member of the staff team at (202) 789-2900 for details.
