The USDA Hort Specialties Census: Coming Soon to Your Mailbox
The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will begin collecting data for the 2019 Census of Horticultural Specialties, which includes greenhouse and nursery production, this winter. Over 40,000 producers should receive a survey code in the coming weeks.
New this round, growers will submit all responses online through NASS’ website. Online responses are anticipated to save entry time by calculating totals and automatically skipping questions that do not apply to your specific operation. The online platform will be accessible by most electronic devices.
Please look for your survey code and respond in a timely manner. NASS set the deadline for 5 February 2020. Plus, producers who receive the survey code are required by federal law (Title 7 USC 2204(g) Public Law 105-113) to respond. This law also ensures that NASS keep all data and information confidential.
The Census of Horticultural Specialties is conducted once every five years and serves as the only source of detailed production and sales data for US floriculture, nursery, and greenhouse production. These survey results will be available December, 2020.
