User-Friendly Nursery Crop Insurance? Your Chance to Weigh In

You are here:

The nursery crop insurance program has been much cussed and discussed in recent years. Most consider the program to be challenging and burdensome, with much of the burden recurring year after year regardless of whether you have a claim.

There is an effort underway to change that.  It started in Florida, which isn’t surprising since most buy-up coverage happens in such peril-prone places. AmericanHort has joined forces with the Florida Nursery, Growers, and Landscape Association and other state partners to advocate for a new approach that is more practical, business friendly, and actuarially sound.

The Risk Management Agency of the US Department of Agriculture recently awarded a contract to research this new alternative, referred to as Nursery Value Select, and identify issues related to the proposed program.  Watts and Associates, Inc. (W&A), a Montana-based private economic consulting firm, was contracted to conduct a targeted study to evaluate the efficacy of the new concept and gather stakeholder input regarding its appropriateness.

W&A will be hosting a teleconference listening session using GoToMeeting presentation software on July 26, 2017 from 2:00-3:00 PM EDT.  The meeting will focus on gathering input from nursery operators and other knowledgeable parties.

You may view the presentation and join the meeting from your computer, tablet, or smartphone by clicking here. If you have not used the GoToMeeting software in the past and plan to attend the teleconference, please open the link early to give yourself enough time to download the free software before the meeting begins.
